Short Bio:
Alda Manuel is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer, graduated from the University of Newcastle, where she was selected by competition to give the final speech at the graduation ceremony on behalf of the students of the Faculty of Engineering. She currently works at Anglobal, an Energy and Telecommunications in which it manages and designs renewable energy projects, especially photovoltaics. She is also proficient in professional electrical installations in synchronization and programming of controllers for renewable energy applications.   On grounds of her involvement with solar energy projects, she was invited to join the board of the Angolan Association of Renewable Energy (ASAER). Her responsibilities lie in contacting leaders who are interested in sustainability, especially renewables energy liaising with different public and private companies for engagement with the association as well as get relevant Angolan government bodies on board to support, and bridge the energy transition in Angola. She also worked at OpertecAngola as a Facilities Engineering Contract Manager, in which she was responsable for designing and implementing procedures and preventive plans focusing in minimizing facilities’ inefficiencies and/or deficiencies, where she led a group of male technicians.   Her interests reflect on the quality of education, gender equality and clean/affordable energy. Alda is the Coordinator of the Renewable Energy Campaign at EcoAngola, where she is responsible for planning campaign strategies, organizing activities and defining milestones. She also oversees the development of educational materials related to sustainability and resources renewables. She believes it is necessary to break barriers for women to conquer space in areas of science and technology, focusing on influencing young women and maximizing their technical skills. Alda Manuel is passionate about education. She is currently developing a platform named Tchossi Academic to improve access to teaching materials by providing an academic repository open to the public and directional studies with Angolan experts. The platform also aims to promote scientific research in universities and bridge the gap exchange of knowledge through educational forums and technical webinars.   HER KEY ACHIEVEMENTS • Selected by the OHRLLS to represent Angola in the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in January, 2022. • Invited by the French Government to attend and represent Angolan youth in the Africa-France New Summit in October, 2021. • In January 2021, I was selected as one of the 100 most influential young people from the Lusophone by the CPLP organization, which is the Youth Organization for CPLP in partnership with Neoafrican Academy; • Won the Sinergy contest at the African continent level in December 2020 with her project named Tchossi Academic (repository and virtual library of academic and professional content). • Got selected to be the Ambassador in Angola for NEF (Next Einstein Forum), which is an international organization that aims to make Africa a global hub for science and technology.
